Featuring a remarkable selection of works from the renowned John C. Weber Collection of Japanese art, the exhibit traces the transformation of the kimono from the late Edo period (1615–1868) through the early 20th century, as the T-shaped garment was adapted to suit the lifestyle of modern Japanese women.
To display the garments the Metropolitan Museum’s exhibition team re-utilized eleven cases, The acrylic and glass exhibit display cases were initially produced by FRANK Europe (glass) and FRANK’s licensed acrylic case producer (through 2020), Gaylord Archival.
The cases were initially created for the 2018 blockbuster, Heavenly Bodies. The ease with which the cases can be assembled, de-mounted, and reused was a compelling feature for the Met team in choosing FRANK.
The exhibition is on view in the Japanese Galleries of the museum from June 7, 2022, through February 20, 2023
