Among the objects displayed were monumental marble reliefs from the Museum of Islamic Art in Cairo, luxury objects ranging from rock crystal and ivory to ceramic lusterware — a technique mastered during Fatimid times, and masterpieces of metalware. Housed in a series of 23 FRANK acrylic cases, many of which utilize FRANK’s proprietary lighting system to highlight the beauty and details of the objects, the cases continue to be used and re-used for the museum’s special exhibitions program
The World of the Fatimids exhibition held in 2018 at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto, Canada, is notable for being the first occasion that a selection of rare, carefully selected masterpieces from the Fatimid dynasty were shown in North America. At its height of power in the 10th and 11th century, the dynasty, centered in Cairo, built one of the world’s oldest universities, compiled one of its greatest libraries, and fostered a flowering of the arts and sciences, establishing one of the world’s great civilizations.
